Sometimes my little haven for peace & quiet where I love to grow things I can share with my family & friends.

We wrapped up warm and popped off to the allotment at 8.30am this morning to collect veg for dinner this evening.

Curly kale, spinach, leeks and parsnips.

Our seed potato order arrived on Thursday and i'm now thinking where will I put them all but looking today at the plot I have plenty of room.

We had to rush a bit at the allotment as it started to rain. Coming home the weather really brightened up and the sun came out so I cleaned out Morris and sorted the chickens out so they can't free range round the garden making it a mine field. The look the gave me not allowing them out of their pen. I tidied the garden sowed my strawberry seeds and Hubby fixed my plastic greenhouse that got blown away the other day. Still wanting to be in the great outdoors I decided I would walk up to the lot and take some photos to show you all. The date on the photos is wrong as I put the wrong year.

Broad beans sowed in October 06 looking very healthy at the moment, lets hope I can keep the black fly at bay this year.

Garlic not all of it but one section as I planted two types.

Spinach and kale that we are having for dinner today.

These are onions which have been flattened a couple of times now. The ones nearer the date are sown from seed and will need thinning they are doing better then I expected.

The best of the spring cabbages the others don't seem to be hearting up that well.

An overview of part of the allotment. Just in front there will be where the potatoes are going this year.

And our fruit plot that we took on in October as you can see nothing has been done as yet really.

Oh what a beauiful morning & what a beauiful day..

I'll just sit back and watch my darlings while they are tolling away. (Try and sing it in the song)

The three raised beds have now been filled with soil ready for whatever I wish to plant. I transplanted my spinach as it wasn't doing that well so lets see how it does now.

The left over brussel sprout plants have been been dug up also the brocolli plants ready for that area to be prepared for potatoes that will be growing there this year.

All the bags of manure we collected the other weekend have been emptied into the compost bin so to rot down some more. Hubby took all the rubbish to the tip to stop it flying around the allotment and making it look untidy.

We spent most of the morning at the allotment even had a bite to eat as I took sandwiches with us and a flask of tea. It was lovely sitting in the sun on a bail of straw, it felt like a spring day. Morris came too and is getting lazy these days and climbed up on the straw and took a nap.

Harvested some veg for Sunday dinner savoy cabbage, parnips and what was left on the brocolli plants before I dug them up. A little weeding got done and sprayed the broad beans for pests. Now trying to work out where i'm going to plant everything this year if all goes to plan.

First entry this year.

Happy New Year!!
Weather really wasn't on my side this weekend, I know I said I like rain but only when I don't have to go to the allotment and for the first time this year.
Saturday morning Hubby, Little Tot & I went to collect manure as we have been meaning to do it since November. Before we left it started spitting but we carried on. When we got there collecting it was ok as it was keeping our feet lovely and warm but putting the bags in the Land Rover we got drenched and that wasn't fun. Little Tot enjoyed standing on the big pile of poo haha.
Arriving at the allotment in the afternoon Hubby took the Land Rover down to our plot and slid off the track nearly into my purple sprouting brocolli because it has been raining alot and we have made it muddy keep driving down. Its on a slant as well so that doesn't help. Hubby carrying a bag nearly covered himself in the manure as the cardboard I have down has got very slippery too. Can't use the manure straight away on the veg as it isn't that old so I might empty out the bags into our compost big and leave for a while. This manure has alot of sawdust instead of straw.
Gathered some veg for the weekend, leeks, kale & parnips. Couldn't decide on kale or savoy cabbage. Made a lovely leek and potato soup on Saturday and kale & parnips I used for Sunday dinner along with a butternut squash I had stored. Got some baby leeks to have in the week.
Didn't do any work at the allotment as it was too wet but just looked around at the work to be done this coming year. Sorted out all my seeds and put them in month order into a shoe box so it is easier to see what I have to sow in that month. Now awaiting for my potato order to arrive to start chitting and the warm weather to start sowing. Mind you I have started some lettuce in the plastic greenhouse which are coming along tidy. Need to transplant some more not sure where as I have to have them out of the chickens reach as they will be go in two mintues.
