A good time had by all

I haven't done alot on the allotment lately as i've been busy most weekends. I've been working harder in the week so when the weekend comes I want to catch up and relax not that I can sit down much. The baby chickens are coming up to point of lay but as we have shorter days I'm getting no eggs at all from the only hen that was laying.

The greenhouse has one lonely cucumber plant which has a fruit on it and I did sown some lambs lettuce and winter lettuce but think maybe they have been eaten as I can't see anything. Savoy cabbage have got a bad amount of white fly so i'm hoping we have at least a couple for Christmas. Brussels I don't think are doing very well at all. Greyhound cabbages and some cauliflowers and purple cape are coming along nicely.

We are still eating broccoli, curly kale, swiss chard, swedes, parnips. Veg from store carrots, patty pan, garlic, potatoes. I did cheat the other day and brought a cauliflower as I really fancied one with our lamb and mint sauce, other than that I don't veg and if I do I buy english only.

I'm pleased to say that we had our first leeks 'autumn giant' this evening. I planted some and then the weeds took over but the leeks came through and they tasted good too. I've moved them now with some others that aren't doing as well so I hope the move doesn't kill em.

The garlic i've planted has shot through but the shop brought first from a supermarket and not from the garden centre. Onion sets are poking through too.

Our fennel is doing well seeing all I did was cut the bulb off and leave the root in the ground but you have more than one blub growing out. Yet to try it to comment on the taste. We had no sweetcorn this year try again next. Broad beans i'm not too sure if i'm going to sow now or next year as they soon catch up.

This year for Guy Fawkes we decided to have a bonfire at the allotment and the boys made a Guy to burn. We also had a BBQ and some fireworks to make a night of it and it turned out really well. We started at 3.30 and was home in the warm by 6pm to relax.
I was up at the allotment by 8am today sorting out the compost bins and pulling up the weeds by the greenhouse. It was so nice and peaceful and the sun was shinning down. Its looking alot tidier. Have a good week everyone and a good run upto Christmas as not much to report at this time.
