Meet our new additions

Two more hens, interested to know what breed they are, I have my ideas. They were introduced to the other hens Friday after staying separate for 2 days. It looks like our Maran has started laying found her in the nest box and later there was a small egg and i've had one everyday. The other older chicken has stopped laying for some reason, she wasn't laying before these two were put in so nothing to do with new hens.

Didn't go to the allotment this weekend as it been a bit wet but been doing a bit of internet shopping and purchased a hot house (plastic greenhouse) for the allotment. It will stay up all the time so I can continue growing edibles over the winter.

Tomato & chilli seeds are up. Here are the chillis.

May get a few more trays sown this week and hope the weather gives up on the rain a bit so we can go over the allotment again with the rotovator then the spuds (earlies) can start going in.

To end todays posting heres Morris have a nice bowl of tea (his favorite treat).

This is the hard work that was done last weekend of rotivating the new plot over. Still seemed quite muddy up there yesterday but it will drain through soon enough.

Broad beans are doing well and I prepared a small trench for my peas to go in shortly as they are growing well in the greenhouse. I forgot the have a long root system and the roots are poking out the end. Not all 60 (I think) have germinated yet about half.

Kale is starting to grow again and the spring cabbages are too. At the front are my cauliflowers they seem to be ok. Still got another tray to go in.

Cabbages sown on 5th Feb are just showing well a couple anyway but no sign of my strawberries, leeks or chillis.

Didn't do alot at the allotment really sorted out the compost heap oh yeh planted 18 shallots following on from the garlic. Weeded around one patch of garlic and around the cabbages.

Looking forward to March now when I can start planting my potatoes.

Have a good week to all who read this. x

Grass no more.

Well after my Husbands hard work this weekend this plot does not look like this anymore. We brought a new rotovator this week. Not a brand new one of course, new to us. It worked brilliantly much better than our old one. This whole plot has been turned over ready to be done again later in the year. At first I thought we may have snow this weekend as we did on Thursday 8th Feb but it was gone by Saturday and the sun was out in the afternoon. After coming home from a course we both nipped up to the allotment on Saturday and rotivated our old plot and we was done in an hour. Sunday Hubby felt in the mood to do our new plot, (who was I to stop him). It was very muddy and as soon as we got to the allotment our middle son fell over onto a prickle, (not a good start). After a cup of tea and a little sit down he was fine and went off with the hammer to hammer whatever he could find to hit. I planted out 18 cauliflowers seedlings hoping that the ground isn't too wet but I was finding it hard to look after them at home in the tray. They were used to the elements of the weather as they got covered in snow the other day. Also I get itchy and have to be planting something.

Weekend before the chickens got upgraded to a new house a little studio apartment so we was busy all Sunday doing that. Here it is.

Can fit in a couple more chooks now would like to get them soon. Summer time I want to repaint it and make a little wooden fence around it will give it a nice country feel.
Sowed some tomatoes, aubergines, strawberrys, greyhound & red cabbage, leeks & chillis the other weeks. Peas are coming along and just showing.
Hopefully i'll get some pictures next weekend of the rotivated plot & bits and pieces as this weekend I forgot the camera.
